The University of Alberta was the host institution this year for the ASAPA fall conference and annual AGM. The conference included two excellent keynote speakers (Wade King- "Human Rights and Inclusion" and Shana Dion and student panel - "Student Funding from an Aboriginal Perspective". Student Aid Alberta joined us on day 2 and provided the membership with updates regarding numerous topics related to student financial assistance in Alberta and continue to work in a very consultative manner with stakeholders in the province.

ASAPA held it's fall conference and annual AGM on the campus of Concordia University of Edmonton, Stacie Baker gave a great presentation on financial empowerment along with lots of great tips for engaging students. Student Aid Alberta joined us on Day 2 and provided the membership with a manager's update and an excellent Q & A session. Below is a photo of the new 2016 ASAPA executive.

The ASAPA executive regularly meets face to face with Student Aid Alberta managers to discuss concerns. In addition, we like to keep the channels of communication open with student groups and so we met with the Council of Alberta University Students (CAUS) to discuss and share priorities for the coming year. A big thank you to Beverly Eastham, Executive Director and Brittany Pitruniak, Vice-Chair.

The ASAPA executive held a face to face transition meeting in Edmonton to welcome new members to the board and to have outgoing members pass along information. In addition, we met with two very important student groups - Alberta Students' Executive Council (ASEC) and Council of Alberta University Students (CAUS) - to learn more about their policy objectives for the coming year. Finally, we met with Student Aid Alberta Managers in a roundtable to discuss policy and procedural issues that have been identified by the ASAPA membership.
